Technology

Powder Injection Molding

We are world leaders in working experience with low and medium pressure powder injection molding (PIM) to produce near-net shaped specialty parts from a variety of advanced materials. Our current manufacturing is geared toward processing of complex shaped hardmetals, cermets and some ceramics.

Tungsten Heavy Alloys

MPI has some of the leading technical expertise in the area of tungsten heavy alloys which are currently finding applications in the areas of counterweights, gyroscopes, long rod penetrators, radiations shields, golf clubs, electrical contact materials, etc. Some W-Cu materials are used for controlled thermal expansion alloys with a good thermal conductivity.

High Energy Milling

MPI has the expertise in the area of high energy milling (HEM) to produce a variety of exotic non-equilibrium alloys and composites. MPI has a two-liter Simoloyer" machine built by Zoz. This type of horizontal rotating HEM machine is used in the production of naocrystalline and amorphous materials, oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) alloys, metal-matrix and ceramic-matrix composites and numerous non-equilibrium alloys with unique property combination.

Tungsten Carbide

For use in industrial cutting tools, a variety of nozzles with intricate internal geometries, abrasive water jets, mining operations and related abrasive wear operations, sand blast nozzles, various wear parts in centrifuges, etc. Tools manufactured using tungsten carbides offer an excellent combination of hardness, toughness, and wear resistance that is not available in most engineered materials. Our focus areas include the near net shape processing of conventional WC-Co based hardmaterials and other advanced superhard material systems including cermets and composites based on a variety of ultra high hardness materials and coatings for wear and abrasion related applications. Using various PIM production methods, specialty ultrahard materials and wear parts are commercially produced at our facilities for clients around the world. Several superhard powder grades are under continuous research and development as the properties are improved and enriched.
